Original Poem: If Only...

If Only...

If I could only be your rockstar
I would drain out all your fears
Whenever you feel that hidden ache
My music would dry those tears

If I could only be your scientist
I would find that impossible cure
And in the night when it’s hard to fight
It would make you superior

If I could only be your instructor
I would teach you the way to live
I’d give you hints to forget the unimportant
And more of what I can give

If I could only be your mother
I could just tell you it’s alright
That your dad didn’t mean to do it
And that the future ahead is bright

Song Interpretation: Stop Me

Mark Ronson - Stop Me (Featuring D. Merriweather)

Lyrics:

Stop me, oh oh oh, stop me,
Stop me if you think that you've,
Heard this one before.
Stop me, oh oh oh, stop me,
Stop me if you think that you've,
Heard this one before.
Cause nothing's changed,
I still love you.
Oh, I still love you,
Only slightly, only slightly less,
Than I used to, my love.

I was delayed, I was way-laid,
An emergency stop,
I saw the last ten seconds of life,
I crashed down on the crossbar,
And the pain was enough to make,
A shy, bald, buddhist reflect.
And plan a mass murder,
Who said I'd lied to her?

Who said I'd lied?
Because I never, never,
Who said I'd lied because I never.

I was detained, I was restrained,
Broke my knee,
And broke my spleen,
And then he really layed into me. (Yeah)
Friday night in out-patients,
Who said I'd lied to her?

Who said I'd lied?
Because I never, never,
Who said I'd lied to her?

Oh, so I drank one,
It became four.
And when I fell on the floor,
I drank more

Stop me, oh oh oh, stop me,
Stop me if you think that you've,
Heard this one before.
Stop me, oh oh oh, I said stop me,
Stop me if you think that you've,
Heard this one before.
Nothing's changed.
I still love you,
Oh, I still love you.
Only slightly, only slightly less,
than I used to, my love.

Set me free why dont you?
Get out my life why dont you?
Cause you dont really love me, you just keep me hanging on
Set me free why dont you?
Get out of my love why dont you?
Cause you dont really love me you just keep me hanging on.

The song “Stop Me” by Mark Ronson—sung by Daniel Merriweather—is a based on a story about a relationship between people whose life together is falling apart because of the man’s constant lies about where he is during the day. The girl believes in the lies until he messes up and tells her the same story twice, thus ending the relationship.
Throughout the entire song are examples of the lies he tells his significant other even though he constantly denies it. The first lie he makes up is the one where he exclaims, “I was delayed, I was way-laid, an emergency stop, I saw the last ten seconds of life...” Here he is making the excuse that he was in an accident and he was hurt so bad that he almost died.
The next excuse he makes up is when he states that he “…broke my [his] knee, broke my spleen…” He lies to her about getting hurt which caused him to be late. The last tale he tells her is that he had been drinking and that he had been drinking so much that he couldn’t stop and did not know where he was.
After each excuse he says, “Who said I’d lied to her?” I think Ronson put this phrase here to make the listener understand what is going on and that he was actually lying to his girl. When Merriweather constantly sings that line it makes the reader think about the excuse he made and how outrageous they are and realize how unreal they must be.
The song title “Stop Me” plays a significant role within the song. It is used as the chorus in the song and is the one thing that makes the listener realizes he is in fact making up all the lies. Merriweather sings, “Stop me if you think that you’ve heard this one before.” This line basically is referencing to the made up stories throughout the entire song. He knows that if he tells his loved one the same lie twice she would know that he was making up the tales and that he was lying to her the entire time which may cause the relationship to crumble.
The listener can tell the singer feels badly about all the times he lied to his girl when he states, “Nothing’s changed, I still love you…” However, the speaker may only be saying this line to keep his girl he thinks he loves but is still going to go out and do the things he had been doing.
And, in the end, even though Merriweather sings the last two stanzas, it is from the girl’s point of view. She finally had enough of all the games he played on her and tells exclaims “Get out of my life why don’t you? Cause you don’t really love me, you just keep me hanging on.” She realizes that the relationship is probably never going to heal because of how much he wrecked the trust. Therefore, she wants him to let go of her because she is tired of all the drama and the suffering.

Song Interpretation: Time

Chantal Kreviazuk - Time

Lyrics:

Time, where did you go?
Why did you leave me here alone?
Wait, don't go so fast
I'm missing the moments as they pass

Now I've looked in the mirror and the worlds getting clearer
So wait for me this time

I'm down,
I'm down on my knees
I'm begging for all your sympathy
But you, (I'm just an illusion) you don't seem to care (I wish that I could)
You humble people everywhere (I don't mean to hurt you)

Now I've looked in the mirror and the world's getting clearer
I'll take what you give me
Please know that I'm learning
So wait for me this time

I should've know better
And I shouldn't have wasted those days
And afternoons and mornings
I threw them all away

Now
This is my time
And I'm going to make this moment mine
(I shouldn't have wasted those days)

I'll take what you give me
Please know that I'm learning
I've looked in the mirror
My world's getting clearer
So wait for me this time

This time, this time, this time

Ohhh, this time
This time
This time

Chantal Kreviazuk’s song “Time” was featured on the original soundtrack for the 2003 film “Uptown Girls.” The song’s main focus is about the narrator missing out on life. She has been wasting her time in life—either by working too much or not doing anything—and not taking it very seriously and is missing all the precious moments in life which include spending time with friends, being with the one you admire or enjoying hobbies.
Chantal Kreviazuk gives time human like qualities within the first stanza. She states, “Time, where did you go? Why did you leave me here alone?” Time in this sentence is given the ability to move. What Kreviazuk means here is that she’s been so caught up in the work she’s been doing or too busy pondering about the past that many months or years have passed by so quickly. When Kreviazuk exclaims, “I’m missing the moments as they pass,” one can tell that she is upset at the fact that she is missing out on her daily and social life. She’s been too busy to notice how fast the years fly by and so she’s complaining to time asking why the days have gone by so fast without notifying her.
In the beginning of the song, Chantal Kreviazuk is saddened by the fact that she did not put the most of herself into her life and wasted time. Then a shift occurs in the song. When Kreviazuk exclaims, “Now I’ve looked in the mirror and the world’s getting clearer,” she finally decides to grad a hold of her life and begin living life to the fullest and spend her days working towards important things and having fun on the side. Also when she states, “I should’ve known better, and I shouldn’t have wasted those days, and afternoons and mornings; I threw them all away,” she makes it clear to herself that she indeed lost track of time and missed out on life and therefore is ready to take charge or her life and make something of herself.
The title of the song “Time” at first glance does not impact you as much if you had not listened to it prior to reading the title. But after you hear the song and realize what the song is about the title takes a more important role. The whole entire song is focused around time. The narrator is upset with herself because she did not notice she was wasting her time doing unnecessary things. Then the narrator is decides that she is going to take control over her life again and that the time to do that is now before she misses out on anything else again.

Song Interpretation: Different

ACCEPTANCE - DIFFERENT

Lyrics:

Tell myself, on the ride home.
Getting tired, hating all I've known.
Holding on, like it's all I have.
Count me out, when it's clear that I, find it hard to say.
And you, find it hard to care.

I wanted to see something that's different, something you said would change in me.
Wanted to be, anything different, everything you would change in me.

Got this way, upfront but never true.
God I'm wrong, it's just the way I am.
Crashing down, any chance you hear.
Caving in, any chance that you, could see inside of me.
And I don't know what to say, It's fine.
This isn't Hollywood.
So fine, getting in your way.

I wanted to see something that's different, something you said would change in me.
Wanted to be, anything different, everything you would change in me.

I'm taking a chance, this could be different.
This could be all I'm waiting for.
Taking a chance, this could be different.
This could be all I'm waiting for.

I wanted to see something that's different, something you said would change in me.
Wanted to be, anything different, everything you would change in me.

Something that's different
Something that's different

Acceptance is a band from Seattle, Washington. Although they broke up in 2006, their wonderful music lives on. This song, “Different,” is a story about the narrator deciding to turn his heart towards to God searching for redemption and a whole new life. The speaker, Jason Vena, talks about his life before he found Christ and about his choice to become a Christian.
In the beginning of the song, Jason exclaims that he is “hating all I’ve [Jason] known.” By this he means that he does not like the life he had been living. He probably had not accomplished much in his life and spent his entire life with no real sense of direction of where he wants to go. Then Vena states, “I wanted to see something that’s different, something you said would change in me.” In this part of the song, Vena is turning to God asking him to make him a completely new person that has a goal in life. He seeks to have a goal in life and not just live a life with no real point.
The reader can tell how lost Jason Vena really is. In the third stanza it reads, “…Caving in, any chance that you, could see inside of me.” One can almost see the desperate nature of Vena because he really needs and wants someone to look inside of him and see the person that is trying desperately to come out.
Near the end of the song Vena sings, “I’m taking a chance, this could be different. This could be all I’m waiting for.” He takes the leap towards God and hopes that this decision can lead him to a life without suffering and not like the life he used to live. He wants to become a person completely different because he feels tired of his old life.
The title, “Different,” basically explains the entire purpose of the song. The title represents the speaker’s desire to become someone completely different from which he was.

미소

I felt that I should post again. It's been like a whole month O__O!
Anyways, how's it going?
I just re-did the design of this blog, and it is okay.
I may end up changing it in the future :D
So anyways, this weekend I am going to work on my persuasive analyses! YAY!
And if I have some more time I'll work on my other poems and finish picking out songs for the song interpretation part.
I still need two more cultural events.
Amber and I want to go see Romeo and Juliet at the Performing Arts Center, but gosh, the prices are so ridiculously high.
The seats in the back of the place are $70! I don't even want to know what they are in the front of the place...
Anyways, here's a heads up:

POEMS: 1/4
SONG INTERPRETATIONS: 0/4
PERSUASIVE ANALYSES: 1/4 (have not posted yet)
